Academic Programs are often “can you type and, if so, how fast and with what accuracy”. In addition, most institutions of higher learning are focused on skill improvements versus overall performance. This is fine. TIA supports every effort for skills improvement.
Some training or learning organizations providing specific skills training use a standard to measure the acceptance of their students’ performance in order for the student to “pass” the course of learning. An example would be a trade school teaching students to be Legal Assistants. Often a legal assistant must type at a certain speed with a certain accuracy level. Other professions may have different standards.
The Typing Institute of America supports all organizations and training programs that exist to improve typing skills for any professional purpose. As such, TIA has established 5 (five) levels of performance based upon its substantial research. (see Standards) |
